Simply put, therapy is hard! It's not always easy to face our pain and make change. Learning new ways to cope with difficult emotions and circumstances will be an important part of the experience. Therapy has the potential to be one of the most important and rewarding experiences you may give to yourself.
You may often hear me refer to what you do in therapy as "the work." Initiating therapy and attending appointments is an important step for your mental health, but the change you want in your life comes from your efforts within and outside of sessions. I consider it a privilege to guide you through this process, and will support you as well as challenge you in various ways in order to reinforce accountability to yourself.
Every person is different, and very much depends on the nature of the issues you bring to therapy. Treatment plans are made collaboratively and evolve as people develop new insights, meet goals, and as their needs change.
No, they do not. There are many approaches and modalities of treatment, and every therapist is unique in their approach--which is why it is so important to find the right fit for you! Research tells us that the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important components of the treatment process, so whether or not you feel comfortable with your therapist matters.
I am continuing to conduct teletherapy sessions via HIPAA compliant video platform for those who prefer this method.
Not at this time. Formal assessments are a service I am working toward providing in the future.
